We are having a case where a mother has been raped in the bush and after medical check up doctors warned of not breast-feeding the baby for a period of six months. People have sent some money and food for the rape victim but forgot to arrange something for the baby who does not know anything other than his mother's breast milk. I, together with a team of three are now trying to reach the mother and discuss with her ways and means this baby could be breast-fed with the milk of another lactating mother. Of-course we are ready to pay the new breast-feeder if she asks so. Far more serious than this is that the culprit has not yet been brought to justice!

The mother is the direct victim of repe and the baby is the indirect victim. That is why people are not considering this baby's plight.

If the mother can substitute some formula and find a donor of breast milk for her child also, this could be a possible solution to the problem, but in six months time, the mother will not have enough milk if any at all to feed her child so she will need some help and support. Is there a way for you to reach UNICEF? I believe that they may be able to help out financially and also with needed tests of the donor mother. This is very sad, Abdi-Noor, for anyone to exercise force upon another person is pitiful but rape goes many layers deeper and will alter the woman's life forever.
