What has happened during the century-long period of colonizing Somalia? How can a community that has relied on itself be reduced to mere beggers of the century. After all where has the century gone? And sadly enough we are worse off than we were hundred years ago, as we have lost all means of sustaining life as well as the local/traditional mechanisms of production.

Well over a century ago
At the Somali seashores
A vessel arrived from Europe
Aiming to colonize the nation
But nobody disembarked from it
As communities resisted the budge
With the use superior weaponry
The Somalis were overpowered

With the shfting sands of time
Situation has changed dramatically
From the very shores they landed
Our youngesters are now departing
Aiming to Enter Europe illegally
But Europe is resisting the move
Slamming doors against immigrant
Some of them die en-route to Europe

One century ago we relied on ourselves
Our people were able to feed themselves
But now we cannot survive without help
We stare in the open if ship is coming
Hoping that it shall bring food supplies
We have developed a syndrome of begging
This is a lesson on the history of dependency
