A new Somali President, Sheikh Sheriff Sheik Ahmed was elected in a nearby country Djibouti after the former one resigned. Today he returned home.
A President returns home
With a bunch of flowers
A girl ran to welcome him, saying
Happy Valentine Mr. President
Like a ghost in her former soul
She had her soul terribly busted
Her life bubbles bursted by evil
Feeling beaten and down trodden
Dangling down from her bare chest
Were her two sapping breasts
Swinging in an air of misery
Awaiting for a breath of mercy
Her name is Ms. Mogadishu
Tired of war and explosions
A once charming spinister
Gang raped by the warlords
Destroyed and rather obliterated
She is staring through dark holes
From where eyes have been gouged
Seeing nothing but a bleak future
My president she says
I am reduced to a mere rubble
But under the smoldering ash
I have living embers of hope
Will you rekindle them to life
Or you will just put them off
With patience Let´s wait and see
But for now you are my new lover
Happy Valentine Mr. president
It is a precious thought for one so ravaged to still hold hope for redemption. This is a piercing poem, and echoes the hopes of so many when a new President or a new regime takes over. May her needs be met and her president be worthy.
