Poem Artwork

don't think
don't think
don't think
that's all I keep saying
just stop
stop it
forget it
forget
say it in duplicate
say it in triplicate
because unwelcome thoughts always bear repeating
like an hypnotic beat
thumping out ill-begotten memories
thump, thump, thump
or perhaps a re-tuning is in order
yes!
time to learn a new instrument
plenty of horns out there
all in need of a good piping
or maybe I need to shed my sun burnt skin
peel those blisters off!
nothing like a good molting
no! wait…
molting speaks of snake
and I'm not the snake
I'm the fool
remembering now:

she who stands alone
will always be vulnerable
to the heartless
thoughtless
careless beasts
whose sharpened teeth
are ever ready to destroy
that which stands in their way

oh just forget it!

Sara, your deep sense of dismay and distrust is very potent in this poem ... standing alone doesn't necessarily suggest you will become vulnerable prey since you are aware of those shaprned teeth and so know how to avoid them, when you desire to ...

It is certainly better to be safe than sorry.

It is wise to look ahead and avoid those things that would render us wounded and less than we are momentarily.

And it is always good, when we fail, or fall, or screw up, to look in the mirror and remind ourselves at least once about the pros and cons of what we have done.

Maybe best to shed that skin, so dissimiliar from the snakes...wash then away. Giving your heart is such a joy, yet such a pain when someone plays on your vulnerability...and mine. jus forget them and you stand tall. This is terrific...

Many thoughtless, heartless, careless beasts now roaming the land, but surely that wondrous critter in your photo is not one of them.

He's a Real Cutie!
