Sometime in mid December
While talking on the phone
Sometime in mid December
While talking on the phone
You played a happy little tune for me
A gift you said of your love
Sitting there listening to that tune
With the promise of your love
My world was suddenly filled
With your tenderness and my joy
Some how all doubts evaporated
With just that promise
And a few simple notes
So now everyday after that
I walk out to my mailbox
Looking for that tune of love
My heart is quick
Adrenal of anticipation
Pumping up my pressure
I open up the door
And inside my mailbox I find
No token of your love inside
Just bills and magazines
As the weeks go by
The full gravity of your promise
Starts to come into focus
The love I thought was special
Was as empty as my mailbox
