In the slow time of night
When subtle thoughts pass person to person by energetic light
Sometimes your hardened heart is locked by fear and fright
At better times your broken mind dances with joy and delight
You play lax music and drink a ten dollar bottle of color white
You clinch your scarred fingers into a fist real tight
You remember those ghosts from your past you liked to fight
You try to forget those ancient souls as your bottom lip gets a bloody bite
You write a letter to your estranged girlfriend to try to set things right
You light up a cheap cigar and think of all that money lost at career height
You see an unopened gift for your son abandoned across country, a red kite
Eyes drift to portrait of parents now dead, varied emotions felt with slight might
Body falls asleep to the distant fading city sounds, consciousness out of sight
In the slow time of night
