Inspired by the whisperings of the ancient winds, I press onward . . .
Tomahawk in hand
Bow ready nearby
Seeking the wisdom of my ancestors
I follow legendary paths of the elders, pressing forward . . .
Medicine woman
I seek remedies
That will restore vitality to all
Every sickness has a remedy buried in the wilderness
Ah . . . the forest shorn
All the plants have died
With it . . . the wisdom of my ancestors
I follow the somber paths of burnt offering, pressing toward
The tears of mankind
With no cures, relief
Inspired by the whispering of the ancient winds, I press onward . . .
Looking for forests
Standing undiscovered.
Published 2001 in my book, A Little Hope, and is in honor of my father's Cherokee mother who died when he was a toddler around 1915. She was the daughter of the medicine man.
