I only recall meeting my father's dad once when I was five but Mom talked about 'Pappy' a lot.
Pappy, a Frenchman, trapped game in the hills of Kentucky.
Wed five times . . . the man wasn’t lucky;
one died giving birth,
the others got sick. He’d simply pick
a lonely woman.
A medicine woman, my grandma,
was a Cherokee Indian girl;
died when Dad was two.
Her ‘gift’ his dread . . . his skin being red . . .
Pap beat in his head.
Pappy’s belt left red welts everywhere.
Step-moms, take a number, didn’t care.
Shared whipping the kids
until their blood ran bright, scarlet red--
flesh stuck to the bed.
Pappy, a trader, a trapper wild,
didn’t know how to raise his own child . . .
favored animals.
Didn’t care a lick when Dad was sick;
black heart . . . didn’t tick
I guess you can consider yourself fortunate you only met the old man that one time. Old habits die hard. I'm not sure I agree with Leland, we still hear some real horror stories. Jackie <> <
all lives need to be told, maybe someone can learn what not to do to children by reading your poem, for what he left behind long ago is still remembered today
A wicked Cajun Fairy named Robes Pierre entered the impenetrable Magical doll land of Sha Bebe. Queen Faustina, the ruler of the doll land, thought she had destroyed him, but he's back! Will the doll land survive his evil ways?
The familiar lament of dual-career parents raising children is, "I just can't do it all." The Libra Solution provides an alternative - a more satisfying and sustainable work and life approach - to the overwrought modern day norm.
It's almost Christmas. Lynn Basil is writing her last book about a secret entrance into the magical doll land of Sha Bebe that she loves so much. Bagannos have taken over the world! Lynn finally meets her dolls in real life. Can she write in a Secret
