Peer into the mirror
see stranger’s eyes staring at me.
Wonder who she may be?
Turning sideways glare here and there.
This body can’t be mine--
the legs, ruined, have spider veins,
her wrinkled face is old,
she’s got side saddles that fall, droop,
her cough sounds like the croup.
To think I used to be
a smidgen of man’s fantasy.
Maybe if I add rouge
it’ll highlight my pale cheeks
but the rest simply reeks!
Perhaps with a shattered image
I’ll o’ercome vanity . . .
t’would be great for humanity.
I smashed the mirror . . . trashed!
I’ll rely on mem’ry
now, forever, eternity!

Time to get a new mirror to see the beauty. Great write.
Good write about a wistful feeling.
