There was a time
when we would walk
hand in hand
under moon,
sky,
and stars,
all attention given
and transfixed
one
upon another.
That was love,
no matter what you said,
no matter what I did.
It should have been admitted.
And only memory comforts
as I look ahead
into the faintest gray future,
and the darkest gray present.
Because there was a time.
