You led the masses to believe a lie.
And, like newborn children,
Left them to be swallowed up by the world.
How could you stand there,
With a smile on your face,
And let them do it?
And them!
Shame to them all...
For never questioning your intentions.
Soon, they will reap it.
To think that the youth of this coming age,
Is turning the very same card,
Committing the very same crime...
I hope they’re proud.
Because pride doesn’t last very long,
In this environment they’ve created.
Have you not listened to a word I’ve said?!
My children...
I am so disappointed in you.
Leave a chance for time to intervene.
The kind that crushes their faces to the pavement.
In hopes that they wake up in time to take control.
Finding that sweet form of humbleness,
That only living life, lucidly, can give them.
For, my children, when you decide to get up and function again.
You will realize all too quickly,
That you no longer have the ability to speak for yourselves.
Your motor skills have taken a ten-story plunge out the window.
YOU ARE AN INFANT!!!
Hopefully by then, the ones who have loved you are long gone.
Because God forbid they see what you’ve become.
Now open your eyes,
And witness the destruction of your own age.
Turn around and gaze into the faded reflection of broken glass.
Mariah another stark and intensly justified write on the state of life and the civilization of the world today. I disagree with Manshi, I think there is more then enought detail and your images are imaginative and bold. You let the reader draw there own inferences which is what good poetry should do, along with make one think. Thank you for this write and let's hope things may spin towards a better world in 2007.
