inside this
frosty now age where the was
is not, or vice
versa,

and daily chills
are sealed in nerve endings,

he is and not,
a fear he fears and resents,
youth jailed
in senescence,
predestined to meander
in silent musings
of where the not here was
and will he find
his way
back to the warm there
and then

or muddle pointlessly the near to be,
rethinking
thoughts he never knew
he forgot?

within a heart of ice
beneath the weight of stones
emerges hope...
a memory revisited, or a new memory emerging
brail verses encrypt our hearts, and melt my soul with emotions...

Great poem about transitions. You are in full-leaf here with this writing. The winter of your discontent you described is merely a change of seasons, a dying down of the old man in preparation for the new man's growth in Spring! Spring, the word says it...So hop to it man, and get crackin'. Great poem, Gene. Thanks for sharing!

How nice that we readers like Gretta here can be so smug in our reviews and criticize others for not having a clue when we ourselves cannot get the grammar right. It's "one in ten HAS a clue" - the subject is singular, dear Gretta.

As for Mr. Williamson's poem, I confess I found this poem a little difficult to work out in my brain. I had to read it again, but I'm still not sure I've got it. But, I find that the more enigmatic a piece is, the more we profess its brilliance. So, bravo!

Now GW, I think that this poem would be well suited to being part of a storyline where the protagonist, by chance, finds a cryptic message on a roll of parchment in the handle of a sword.

Don't you think so many of us think something is lost; yet it isn't forgotten in our mind? This last line got me... and the whole poem keeps you alert. Great job! hugs, lindalaw

Excellent writing, here (I think. Run that by me one more time... for clarity, or cleara, and clean-up! It reminds me of a thing years ago, but I can't recall it, either. Poor L'il snowman!

we Snowmen, those with crowns of white, sometimes prefer to look behind for where the peace of mind might have gone -- for the now and beyond are not easily understood -- what we muddled in teen years, brings forth great cheers -- I am intrigued by the duality of past and present -- the musings of aging gray matter and our perceptions of glories past, missed opportunities past -- the overwhelmingly good news is that there exists, continuum -- now you have me eagerly awaiting the next piece of creativity -- look long into the light of love, for there is where the joy lives -- JMW

Gene,

I'm going off in a different direction with my interpretation of these lines. I'm reminded of the incoming/outgoing presidency: the was, is not; the was not, is. :) " ... and will he find his way? ..." Only time will tell. But what a bright new possibility! :) Well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

I'm always glad to see your words and talent pushing itself into new areas. I especially like the dragging of thought between two points, like a brush dripped then dragged through another color you paint a (muddled) now and then...maybe you'll explain the title “Snowman” or maybe not...Great read Gene
