There
is
nothing

that
wakes up
a morning after

mouth
quite like that
tart

juicy
orange
hiding under

the apples
and
grapes

in the
lace glass
bowl

on the
cherry wood
table.

Eileen

Gene, a picture perfect ode to an orange my dear friend. They contain an array of unique qualities. Much as your poem does. Not the least of which is the ability to make everything seem new and fresh with their aromatics. Nothing smells as wonderful as a fresh orange. My now deceased father-in-law retired to Florida. In his yard were an orange tree and a pink grapefruit tree. After breakfast he would sit on his patio, gaze at all the botanical wonders he had planted in his garden and sip a very tall glass of either orange or pink grapefruit juice laced with a little gin. About two shots! He said it took the edge off and permitted him to relax and appreciate the day. He said the two juices kept him healthy. Your morning communion with the orange to freshen the night's breath reminded me of my father-in-law. I bid you love and peace my dear friend. Jon Michael

Gene,
I can taste it all the way over here this dull rainy morning in Singapore. Now where is that dog?
As Kate says, elegant framing, sharp miniature treasure.

Sorry, that wasn't my cup of tea the morning after, nor a hair of the dog that bit me. Just a plain glass of cold water to put the fire out.

.. if you can find it, that is... oh, looks like you just did! :)) So what wakes up the rest of you?! It's so worth having the night before if your powers of observation and penning produce this good hair of the dog... Don't tell me... he's UNDER the table! This is one still life that's definitely fizzing - without the AlkaSeltzer! Poised and elegantly framed. xx
