Poem Artwork

We come into this world created as we are, and yet use our flaws or given strenths for different purposes, that are not always obvious. Says who....says me!! A ding dong!

You'd Never Guess By Glance

A bell without a ringer
A dome that sits alone
Silent in potential
Perfect pitch and tone

Pretty ornamental
On the shelf.....unused
Repair is nonessential
Flaws at times, amuse

Jingle tunes of silence
When sleeping or in dance
Cast without it's ringer
You'd never guess by glance

Unique by malformation
Cast yet incomplete
A bell without it's ringer
Can never be....off beat!

Ding Ding!

I took this two ways. First, it's charming and funny taken literally. Second, I know people that are "silent in potential" so they can't be off beat....it feels safer that way...and depressing. Here's to syncopation and uneven beats! Enjoyed this very much. JM

"Unique by malformation" ..aren't we all? Anita, besides loving the subject of the poem, I admire that your ryme and meter are precise and creative. If I could produce this level of quality and wit in my own work I would be a very happy camper! Bravissimo!

You were right--didn't guess about the bell but didn't have to about the poem--it rings loud and beautifully clear with unique and applicable insights.

A bell without a ringer
A dome that sits alone
Silent in potential
Perfect pitch and tone

Figureatively speaking, how many of us can be honest enough to confess that we possess within ourselves a particular bell without a ringer? For sure we are common garden bells of varying tones, set at a pitch for closely related ringers to chime us into sounding everyday, familiar tunes as it were. But for some of us, there lies deeply embedded in the gathering sediment of our hearts, a specific bell that longs for a certain ringer. For me personally, I harboured such a bell. I let it sink and rust away for too long. This bell has recently been set free, the rust is being scraped away, the pitching fork is setting its key, and I recognise the tune that's emerging. When the rope is finally and purposely pulled, this bell of expectations will soar high, I am confident of this. My ringer in this instance is no sad Quasimodo, but a timely Esmarelda.
As ever, Anita, your imagery ignites reflection.

And yet a bell is never a bell until it's rung, in as much as a soul is lacking until it loves someone. Victor

Anita, I can't even begin to imagine you as being 'poetically dry' ... you're an amazing writer. This poem is very well done with a wonderful rhyme and rhythm -- your tribute to this unique bell is excellent.
Love and respect,
CJ

Can never be....off beat!

Now that is truly something to ponder.

PS I think there is an ancient secret code on that ringer less bell. For everything, there is a purpose!
