~ Still Life ~
Sitting in my desk chair, looking over pictured walls, Enjoying all the love I feel, wherever my eyes fall. Surrounded by my loved ones, faces framed in gilded gold, Each picture has a story, for my mind’s eye to unfold.
Baby pictures, pony rides, collages of our heirs. Children of our children’s children, hanging right up there. Graduations, Christmas Eve, Thanksgiving Day at home, Nanni’s eighty-fifth, her tiny picture holds the throne.
Family portraits, family first’s, snapshots of family pets, An old piano holds the past, in photographs we’ve kept. Antique doilies handed down, pressed behind the glass, Grace the walls in this small den, full members of the brass.
Younger times for me and mine, captured in embrace, Friends, part of our family, hang in their honored place. Gone, but not forgotten loved ones, smiling down at me, Preserved alive and well, to always keep me company.
A room of friendly faces, smiles beaming wall to wall, Nourishing this heart of mine, in waves of sweet recall. Relaxing in my desk chair, remembering back when, Gazing slowly at framed photographs, hanging in my den.
