~ Olga’s Red Piano ~
Tiny fingers tickling, white ivory keys, in tune. Lessons twice a day, no play on sunny afternoons. Olga’s little scrawny legs, had yet to reach the floor, Dangling from piano bench, stretching for her chords.
Fuzzy ringlets framed a face, in strawberry disarray, Dancing in every direction, in a whimsical kind of way. Six years old tomorrow, Olga had but one request, A shiny red piano, to play what she played best.
Boogie-woogie was her style, frowned on by her peers, A natural talent Olga had, since she was just two years. Olga’s next recital, was just two days away, Until she had her red piano, she refused to play.
Olga’s birthday came and went, a gift no where in sight, She would not play her recital today, ire’d by a wee bit of spite. Poor Olga cried, wiping her eyes, while setting the breakfast table, Heart broken in two, now that she knew her dream was only a fable.
The doors to the sunroom opened wide, to Mama, family and friends, All smiling at Olga, a sad kind of smile, for planning this big pretense. There behind the crowded doorway, set Olga’s gift in wait. A shiny red piano…with a boogie woogie date.
