~ Hannah’s Remarkable Journey ~
Sun shone on a cabin, built of logs and honest hands.
Hannah’s father tilled the soil, to seed the fertile land.
Days from civilization, early settlers made their home,
Hannah, born to pioneers, raised in parts unknown.
Farming, fishing, hunting, kept the family fed and stout.
But Hannah dreamt of places, she’d only heard about,
Longing to see children’s faces, laughing in their play,
Joining in the fun and games, passing the day away.
Papa made a trip each year, three days to "Sander’s Peak",
Purchasing supplies to last through winter’s snow and sleet.
Hannah, ten years old, was grown enough to take the ride,
To see the world she’d waited for, seated by her Papa’s side.
"Sander’s Peak" was bustling, Hannah’s big blue eyes were wide.
Watching through the covered wagon’s holes, from safe inside.
Cowboys, horses, dancehall girls, dressed in fancy lace,
Pretty feathers in their hair, painted colors on their face.
A candy shop with lemon drops, a pound for mama’s crock,
A general store with things galore, to carry home for stock.
Young Hannah was exhausted, when she climbed up into bed,
In Papa’s covered wagon, dreams of home in Hannah’s head.
