~ Fading White ~
A half of me, a half of you, are brothers.
Your eyes, your skin are brown, while I am fair.
Different, yet our love could be no stronger,
Should our Fathers be but one, for us to share.
~
Tots to teens, to full grown men together,
When life was full of mischief, yours and mine
Secrets only brothers tell to brothers, told to me.
Ne’er difference stay between us for a time.
~
A half of you, but not of me, had longings,
Longings you could feel, but could not see.
South Dakota beckoned home, Her Lakota son,
To go, to know your separateness from me.
~
There, is where discovery found a new heart,
Beating to your Native American life.
The half of me, that’s half of you, relinquished.
As a puff of smoke exhaled…to fading white.
