~   A Bench for One   ~

A bench for one sets rigid, in the middle of the floor
Surrounded by tall windows… same size as the doors
Shiny lacquered planks, lay beneath the throne
Ne’er another stick in sight, this bench sets alone.

No back or arms attached to it, four legs, just a top
Looking lonely in the room, where no one dares to stop
Worn from years of tiny wiggling bottoms, burning hot
Tummies laid across it, leather black strap on the spot.

Children tiptoe past the door, as if said bench could hear
Rush to class, don’t be the last, to lag behind the fear
Looking rather nasty, Headmaster’s jaws tight clenched
Searching out a misfit, to lay cross the single bench.

times I know it too well. ;) Ah I was an
onery little devil though. Great write!

Bonnie This poem is Outstanding! It really brings such pain and fear and hate and anger. I cannot tolerate straps! A paddle when I went to school but noting like I cannot tolerate that at all. Never have been able to.

Just outstanding! you are leaving me speechless with this one many thoughts and emotions.

Thank You so much

i was still in school when the teachers could spank students, we were lined up and swatted on the ass, one at a time and the humiliation was worse than the punishment. this brings back memories

Wow-this one hits home! I was forced into living in an English Boarding School when I was very young. I still have bad dreams about it!

They can't have this type of bench in Canada...

Very descriptive. Offers a good read.

There's a lot of meaning "hidden" within these verses. Certainly, the poem is deserving of much more than one read. I know that I am in the process of reading and I've done it more than once already. Thank you for sharing this offering, Bonnie. Love and peace to you. Regis
