When I was in Arkansas visiting two of my Sons, I fell in love with all of these sights and smells. The warm sultry evenings and countryside inspired me.

My Kitchen Window

Looking out my kitchen window,
Taking in the southern breeze.
My thoughts ride out on smoke rings,
Through the weeping willow trees.

Magnolia blossom fragrance,
Softly dancing on my nose,
Mixed with grass and trees and muscadine,
And sterling silver rose.

Crickets softly singing, to the heartbeat of the night,
Comforting my spirit with their tune.
Gently sung in unison, serenading country fields,
Harmonizing, with the rising of the moon.

A candle glows of soft white light,
A sip of sparkling wine
A chaise to rest, enjoy the view,
I feel blessed, in this moment of time.

The Night Blooming Jasmine enfolds me,
Rippling sounds of the creek waters flow,
Looking out my kitchen window,
While old memories, come and go.

I love this type of poem where a person can feel the author's love of nature from the way it is described.
