~ MAMA DO YOU LOVE ME ~ Mama do you love me, I have never heard those words. If you do then won’t you tell me, Is it really that absurd? Why can’t you ever talk to me, Not only when you’re mad, I’ve tried so hard to please you, But I can’t, it makes me sad. Mama do you love me, Like you love my brother Jim. You pushed me far away from you, While you held onto him. I know you’ve done the best you could, And life was hard for you, But I’m a child, who can’t grow up, Until we work this through. Mama do you love me, You’re old and I’m still near, Still asking, “do you love me”? But you’ve grown too deaf to hear. COPYRIGHT©1997 BONNIE TORRENTE

So many of us spend our lives looking for that love that another person, no matter who, can express just exactly the way or the manner in which we want to hear it. Too often "I love you" is said to us, and we don't hear it because we are only hearing our need. It took me most of my mother's life to get into this understanding, and I'm not sure she ever did, during her life. You've written this piece so very well, Bonnie; I salute your talent, and you.

I can`t get to my library fast enough this was moving great flow, fine meter and terrific verses with volume ....poem had a hue of sadness but still a tuned in write

I felt the sadness of the question. When love goes unspoken we then need to go to the next level of identifying LOVE. My father was a man of few words, yet he worked and supported 13 children. Growing up I longed to hear the words "I love you" yet what I really needed to learn was how to accept the love that was given and how to identify its presence. Love is not comparative. I no longer dictate the love I receive, I've just learned to receive it---or not. God Bless you, you are accepted into the Beloved!
