The life of a Manic Depressive

Poem Artwork

“Manic”

Hello again, I see you’re back. I knew you’d be here soon.
I felt you creeping into my world, bringing feelings of sadness and gloom.
You’ll be very busy, casting shadows, like you do,
To change my positive thinking, into your negative point of view.

I’ve come to know the other me, whenever you are here,
A sad and broken human, waiting till the coast is clear.
A week becomes eternity and soon the months have passed,
Not a cell within my being can escape your manic grasp.

You’ve colored all the days of me, “what if” is always there,
Hiding in the shadows, to remind me of your snare.
Trails of halfway memories, trails of life undone,
Interrupted with your presents, my accomplishments unsung.

Sucking all the life from me, till there’s nothing but a shell,
A human shell of emptiness, where a person used to dwell.
A person who’s so distant now, from where she used to be,
I worry will she find her way, to come back here to me.

The sunlight goes unnoticed now; I dwell in darkened schemes,
No use to fight my painful plight, or quiet silent screams.
Life is dull and meaningless; confusion rules my days,
Until you pack your bag of woes, and finally go away.

Helpless in your power, I can only lay in wait,
A month, a year, a lifetime, losing ground and losing faith.
Exhausted from my dual role, your cloud of doom subsides,
Leaving remnants of your presence, in this place where I reside.

Bonnie, you have done this like a professional...outstanding! To put such a heavy topic into poetic words is a real feat!
