~ Caged ~

Beautiful exotic bird,
Your feathers on the floor.
A lonely creature pining,
From inside the cages door.

Plucked away from paradise,
Like the plumage from your skin.
No one cares to let you out,
And there's no one to come in.

A lonely bird that turned the knife,
And plucked yourself apart.
Attempts to reach the part that hurts,
Your sad and broken heart.

Only dreams of far away,
The sun, the sky, the beach,
Quiets echos through a house,
Of your desperate, futile screech.

Your body frail and naked,
Shivers quickly from the chill.
Along with all your feathers,
Went your freedom and your will,

To live and soar amongst your flock,
The wind beneath your wings.
Your spirit flowing ebb and tide,
Like all of nature's things.

You've lost your flight to ignorance,
To those who captured your beauty.
A trophy, sold into bondage.
To entertain and do your duty.

Because you were so beautiful,
A creature so exotic.
You're destined to a life alone...
Despondent and nuerotic.

Bonnie, I have these feelings whenever I visit a zoo, or see caged creatures of any sort. I always know how I would feel if it were me inside that cage, all the while knowing that very often I've been in a cage of my own fears.
I wanted to reach into the cage, pull out this forlorn bird, soothe him into loving again. Please keep writing!

Awesome poetry Bonnie.
Sad but true our treatment of life on earth.

How sad! Just becuse they're beautiful then they're caged. I also like the rhyme scheme in your poem. Good work indeed!
