A sad recollection of memories,
Unlike some I've heard of before,
But where is the shine in these memories of mine,
Of the two sons, I so adore.
The love in our hearts is not questioned,
But when do the proud moments come.
I'm missing the joy of those two little boys,
Ashamed of the men they've become.
My brag book’s no longer setting,
In the den, for my friends to take part.
They're hidden away, no longer displayed,
But not hidden away from my heart.
No mention of children from my lips,
I never could lie very well,
What could I say, except both of you strayed,
Down a path to your own private hell.
I've lived our lives over and over,
Aching to blame just one thing,
But what could it be, why didn’t I see,
How damaged their poor lives had been.
I can't change their minds, I can't hold them up,
I can't fix the wrongs they have done,
Yes…my shame is there, but my heart doesn't care,
Love stays between mothers and sons.
If I had one wish, for my life to be bliss,
For my heart to be truly content.
I'd trade it all in, for their clean slates again,
For a chance to become better men.
My dreams withered away, as I watched them decay,
In a web of destruction...self spun.
Still it hasn't diminished my undying love,
The love between mothers and sons.
Heartfelt, and sadly, I'm sure many out there can relate. My little man is still just a tot. I can only do my best to teach him right and pray that God holds his hand the rest of the way. But as your poem states, mothers love their sons no matter what. This was a great poem. Thank you.
