~ The House on Cypress Street ~
No longing eyes on someone's face, to greet me at the door,
Blank expressions stare in space, wanting to just be ignored.
The dog with his bone, circles my feet, in line for a hug and a treat,
It's lonely here in this big house, this house on Cypress Street.
We built this house on Cypress Street, in light of brighter times,
When all the trees were saplings, when the world was yours and mine.
The signs were there, but love was blind, I'm equally to blame,
Our power struggles never ceased, to complicate our pain.
It's foolish, what we're doing, to ourselves and to our lives,
The joy we thought we'd find together, just never materialized.
We didn't understand each other, you and I, we both had needs,
Locked up inside a place we hide, so neither one could see.
I don't know you, you don't know me, but we know who we are,
Two people who have never learned, to open up their hearts.
The couple in the quiet home, who rarely ever speak,
It's lonely here in this big house, we built on Cypress Street.
