Child abuse and neglect plagues many in life and is hidden well. Pray that no child is abused.

Useless I knew by your look How fastly I learned Although a young child Fear was concerned Breath drenched in whiskey Eyes bloodshot red The stare crumbled mountains Just tremble instead I don’t know the rules I know not what to say I tread lightly and quiet But how it decays For I think when I breathe That’s all that it takes For worthless you said I am nothing to make Born just a bastard Not wanted by one Useless to all And to anyone As my tears well No matter to you It angers you more No compassion have you Why are you angry What have I done? I have given you smiles And given you hugs I’ve said that I love you But words do not touch For some reason I’m hated Too young to know much I won’t say a word As in bed I lay still Praying for safety For whatever your ills I have learned invisibility I have learned to know fear Is this what you wanted? Sadly, your verses express a universal and timeless theme of this life in this world. Your poem brings to my mind the song, "The Icicle Melts" by The Cranberries:

How, how could you hurt the child,

How could you hurt the child?

It makes me angry to think anyone would treat their kid like this. I might be tempted to sock them and see how they like it.

This is always heartbreaking, I went to school with a little boy we suspected was hurt by his father. He always wore long sleeves to hide his burns and bruising. No one should hurt a child.

It's courageous to write about such a burdened subject as Child abuse. It touches me deeply as it will many.
What touches the most is: through the pain and the terrible fears, you write about love.
