Yeah, great age, even mere grand age,
Is something to be wondered at. Now
That my body has reached grand age,
It is beyond my spiritual repentance,
And I would have thought, at times,
Beyond hope and beyond any ransom.
Still, is it the strength or the weakness
Of my body aging, I’d wonder again?
I have defied the world and have taken
A nonchalant attitude towards the rules
Of the universe, which my grand age
Delegates me to do. Whatever occurs,
My placid life flows on unperturbed
And insensible to pain and to misery,
Impervious to shame and to ambition—
The petty human emotions that only
Agitate hot heads and young chests—
So much undaunted even by the threat
Of instant collapse and capital sentence
For the last two decades of unruly aging.
