Poem Artwork

All grand and small plants

On the planet Earth

Emanate a sense

Of the divine because

Being deeply rooted

In the ground

They seem to touch

With their tops and crowns

The core of the seventh roof

Hidden beyond the violet skies.

For this, it is completely alright

To feel that we might pick up

A great wisdom from some plants,

Resorting to the yarrow stalks--

The reliable agent of prophecy.

If we could only produce

Their silent casting-out symbols

And read them rightfully,

We would succeed in discovering

Some profound secrets

Vital to our lifetime goals and aims;

Or even more specifically,

Some revelations

Vital to our daily activities,

Our lasting spiritual experience

And insightful foreseeing.

You have touched upon the symbolism of plants here in this poem in an interesting manner. Think of the durability and strength of bamboo for example. Stand beside a date palm tree and try to get it to move a little. It won't budge it is so firmly rooted in the ground. As you say, there is ""great wisdom" to be unveiled by the multitude of plants we find on earth, leading as you suggest to an "insightful foreseeing".

It is interesting that while plants provide food for those on the planet that can roam, they also are are in deadly combat with other plants around them to see who survives and who doesn't. And their offspring often grow great distances from the parents, either carried by bird, wind, gut, or water. Not to forget the many conveyances of man.
