Before sending me down to earth
God asked me, "Would you like to become
A high mountain, the roof of the world?"
"No, thanks" I refused on the hoof, "For me,
To be a high mountain is too chilly, I hate
To spend all time in the arms of snow and ice."
"What about a lofty tree?" He was insistent.
"No," I was strongly opposed to such an alternative,
As a tree is the subject of rotting and worming.
"Well," He said, "Becoming a huge field stone,
You can be the object of worship for long. . ."
"But even a boulder can be cracked," I talked back.
"Now, what would you say if I give you a chance
To be just a clean spring?" --"Very well," I agreed,
"A tiny stream but is filled up with salmon and trout--
I'll never be starving and thirsty again, my Master."
Upon hearing this, God became so much pleased
That promoted me to the post of the World Ocean
With all its killer whales, stingrays, toothed sharks,
Walruses with tusks, swordfish, sea serpents and
Giant squids; so, I am fed up with my new position.
