COUPLES ?

© - Tom Hyland - 1/31/12

Once upon a Time ...
There was Adam & Eve.
They Bit the Apple ...
Later, Did Grieve!

Next, Came Cain & Abel ...
First Brothers to Fight -
One Zapped the Other ...
Like a Thief in the Night!

Abraham, or Abram, Married his Half-Sister, Sarah ...
From them Came Isaac, then his Wife, Rebekah -
Two Sons they Produced, Esau - then Jacob ...
Who Stole Esau’s Birth-Right - What the Heck-A!

First ‘Con-Artist’ from Our ‘Family Tree’
To This Day - Descendents Still Fight ...
Insanity Runs Rampant ...
“Oh, Say, Can You See?”

Years Later, Came Moses & Brother Aaron ...
Tablets of Stone & Idol Baal -
Broken Commandment ...
Israelites Worshipped a Cow!

Footnote: Must enter Here, or be Remiss ...
‘Second Set’ was ‘First Edit’ -
Original ‘TEN’ = ‘First List’!

Skipping Down, Quite a Bit ...
We have Samson & Delilah,
Who Cut Off his Hair ...
Removed his Strength, without a Care!

David & Goliath, not Really a Couple ...
The ‘Wee One’ Slew The ‘Giant’ -
Did It - Quite Alone ...
He was the Victor - with a Sling & a Stone!

Centuries Passed, Things got Quite ‘Hairy’
When Joseph was Betrothed to the ‘Virgin Mary!’
Along Came Jesus & ‘The Holy Ghost’ ...
‘The Holy Trinity’ - With GOD On High - Surely The Most!

Sometime Before - As we ‘Back-Track’ a Bit ...
Was Julius The Caesar & Cleopatra -
Who Gave him a Fit ...
She was a ‘Doozy’ - Pretty, with Wit!

After ‘Caesar’ Experienced the ‘Ides of March’ ...
‘Twas Then - Antony & Cleo - Both ‘Full of Starch’!

We Passed Over Many Ancient Greeks,
Like Hera & Zeus -
And Counter-Part Romans,
Juno & Jupiter - Quite ‘Footloose’ ...

As we End this Attempt at Eloquence ...
One More Couple We Just Must Name ...
Romeo & Juliet ... Hence ...
Of Shakespearian Tragedy Fame!

Excellent tiptoe through the historical tulips. I didn't realize you were such a Bible scholar.

Cleverly concocted and expressed as usual, Tom. You do not disappoint. Thanks for the smiles. Love and peace and best wishes to you,

Tom,

I loved it! The summing up of the Bible in a poem, along with other bits of history and literature. Very well written.

And what about another famous odd couple.
Old Sir Wuss-A-Lot and Old Sir Cur Tomkat;
The Abbott and Costello of today’s modern era,
Constantly embroiled in some old Ed Family spat.

I'm having a couple of beers while I ponder this.....hey wait. Are you punning us?

He was the Victor - with a Sling & a Stone!

Yes he was as I recall, a black and white Victor Mature. Correct me if I'm wrong, might have been Samson...or both. (a couple?)
