Divorce

This is a death, and somehow it is mine.
So, facing death, I turn to the Divine
And ask that question always asked by men…
“If there is death, can there be life again?”

The evidence surrounds me, it’s no guess
The answer to my question must be “Yes.”
The heart keeps beating even though it breaks-
Life will go on, whatever form it takes.

And that’s the question, “What is life to be?”
With your alternative to loving me,
I had no choice, a heart that always cared
Rejected by the one whose life it shared.

I have to stop the question, “What of you?”
About which there is nothing I can do.
Except perhaps as always I will pray,
For mine is not a love that goes away.

It never did, for that I thank God’s grace,
And He will still be with me in this place
Without you though it just does not seem real.
You never could perceive the things I feel.

We were not happy in the last few years,
It had to stop- the anger and the tears…
And this is how, but oh what sacrifice.
I know I can, but can you pay the price?

The best part about this poem is a lack of bitterness, as well as skilled writing. Divorce is so hard on everyone involved, and I liked the positivity of your take on it, that life must go on. As a child of divorce, I know it is hard on all sides, adults as well as children. This is a poem to be proud of because it shows your inner strength and wisdom.

John,

you latch unto the words of death for breaking of matrmonial ties is a death like burying a loved one for once love was in bloom then ages and themes mold the ungraced bed of love. And then if separation arrives.... thenpain is sure to follow... Tapping the sacrifice of greatness on both or ones part...
This is healing you know.. Writing , releasing, and beginning again.,...

John, I have been in your shoes. Nearly ten years have passed and time has changed so much. You capture much truth above, particularly in stanza four. Keep writing through it, and let this be a time of healing and growth for you.

John I feel the pain with you because it is so well expressed, one can't help but feel it. Just remember that through all the hurt and pain, maybe anger, and still those feelings of love that will never go away, you are not alone, not by a long shot. Writing sure is a great avenue for expressions. Keep your head up...
