The Way It Is

Perhaps it is not for lack of love-

But for the presence of so much else-

That human needs get lost in the clutter.

And the mad scramble for puzzle pieces

Gets mistaken for indifference.

We wonder why so many of the winners

In this rat race…

Are rats.

At this pace- with this much traffic-

We can only bark orders

Rather than weave poetic explanations.

“Get out of the way!”

So- I understand.

You may not ever know what happened here,

Or believe it when you read the message

Left just for you…

On my tombstone.
