Written while thinking of my 40th high school reunion. I thought I was so invisible back then. 40 years later couldn't be more humbled at those who wanted to see me. Now they can.
Because I Can
I don’t know who I was back then-
Or even recently.
I guess it doesn’t matter when-
Was just becoming me.
And somehow you were watching though-
I never dreamed you would.
A million chances botching so-
To treat you like I should.
So many dreams just crashed and burned
As if I didn’t try.
Took only what I knew I earned,
And never questioned why.
There’s still a lot to show for this-
A son that makes me proud.
But nothing like that special kiss
That never was allowed.
It’s funny, all that time can do-
To bless an honest man.
It somehow brought me back to you
To thank- because I can.
There’s a feeling I have now,
I’m not afraid to share…
That you have taught my heart somehow-
To know that people care.
Have a waltz and do some fancy footwork for me!
Ron
Love ya!
