People are not always what they appear to be,
a world of black and white, yet so much gray,
never knowing whether to stay, fight, or flee,
dilemmas and decisions faced along the way.
Whether friend or foe we often do not know,
each of us have an agenda that is all our own,
good versus evil struggling everywhere we go,
we have suspicions by one’s manner and tone.
There is those we trust, those we think we can,
a journey where obstacles are many on the path,
but respect and honor sadly do not rule the land,
ruled by greed and temptation creates the wrath.
Power and money transforms to betrayal and lies,
to protect their secret some just won’t stand still,
to preserve his identity he doesn’t care who dies,
for a lone traitor in the ranks can cause the kill.
The undercover police officers have a lot to fear,
maintaining their cover while developing cases,
the real enemy sometimes can be close and near,
under a rock, or behind a badge, so many places.
Yes this is so true. Sometimes the "traitors" are the ones in office.
They love money so much they don't care if they cause a financial collapse in the country, or the world for that matter. They don't even care if people die or commit suicide after being cheated of their savings, they are not just traitors, they are vultures.
Your poem is fill with a lot of knowledge and truth.Sometimes we can't even trust our own family members much less our friends.I've been there before.A well written piece.take care
Wow, a thought provoking write my friend. However, you are right. In the small county that we live...much corruption has been uncovered in the past few years. Our cities mayor, county clerk, and a few other officials are spending time in prison due to their hidden corruption, and secret identity. A wise poem with much depth. Well done!

Yes, there are always 'Traitors Among Us' but it is the wise one who looks and is cautious...he'll not stumble....very wise words and a great poem Samuel! Congrats, on your new book, Holly
