I
I am on the road,
An exile from my true home.
I have fallen from an infinite sky,
Landing softly upon a planet from on high.
I don’t know why,
But I do know to what end.
I seek a presence that I feel in my heart,
A presence once found from whom I wish never to part.
Destined to wander as an exile far afield,
Determined to bring back my soul fully healed.
To climb back into the heavens to once again look down,
Upon my life on earth, waiting patiently to be found.
II
Take me by the hand,
Never let me go.
I may roam from here to the horizon,
Sit there in peace staring down at my toes.
I have no wish to live my life as a miser,
But my travails leave me none the wiser.
Over the years I have loved and lost,
All the while expending myself at incredible cost.
Ignorance of one’s destiny can serve as my guide.
If I knew the challenges of my fate,
I might lose patience to still wait,
Still on the road, not yet arrived, still gone.
For some of us, such a road has no end, and for good reason. A journey is only as long or as short as purpose would have it. Far too many walk in place their whole lives, never knowing the rewards of a journey that has no end. Inspiring wordsmithing here. Thank you.
