The demon in the bottle has been suddenly let loose,
Running around town like a tarred and feathered goose,
Feathers dripping that sticky darkness every which way,
Hawking and bawling with a mouthful of noise to say.
A fiend is what it is now completely beyond anyone’s control.
The cork and bottle cast aside and held privately in escrow,
In case the world could find somewhere an honest gentleman,
To tie up that demon with a noose and lead it back to the pen.
The demon flouted a lot of nonsense sounding as pie in the sky,
Like a chicken flapping around with wings that couldn’t fly,
Uttering oaths of death and dying its stone heart could summon,
The demon himself a sign that the end of the world was comin’.
Vast multitudes of demons heard the arch-demon’s primitive cries;
Finally something to believe in as they muttered savage replies.
The reek of raw evil gladly invades hearts blackened beyond repair;
To gather into a formidable force with which nothing can compare.
Now those of you reading may be surprised to find out and learn,
That the world still has rabbit paths that lead around every turn.
Now these fiends gathered forces and ran for their money’s worth,
Ripping, tearing, and devouring the extent of civilization’s turf.
And so there you have it, the world once laid out like Chinese silk,
Speckles of moonlight falling upon earth like drippings of buttermilk.
Now the earth lies in waiting with its arms wide open upon the ground,
To be ravaged without mercy, not a single drop of innocence to be found.
Heaven's will realizes itself on the earth due to the limitless endurance of the latter. Yes, the ability of submission is inherent nature and the unbeatable advantage of Earth at overplaying every single trick of the whole army of demons. This means that not a single one of them can perform successfully to make us be on the safe side to the best of our luck and intellect ;)) I love this piece's freaky dynamics and fancy coinage. Cheers, alex
We now know that last night's events in Orlando has taken over 50 souls with more than 50 more seriously injured, a true horror and now identified as the worst shooting massacre in US history. This poem, however, was written several weeks ago and not in response specifically to what happened last night. John
I am more direct than you when it comes to this subject. Still there is power in anonymity as the ability for the reader to think what they're thinking whether they are right or not because the allegory and metaphor are very strong, hidden in the phraseology in a way that leads people to their own conclusions about what you are really writing about. This is one of your best. The language is superb.
The de"mans" in this world are far below animals. Animals kill to survive, all the terror killers cut off heads, boil in acid , rape little girls, kill their own daughters for showing their leg exposed, etc, and we sit around with some getting all disgusted at water boarding that our own military in training has to go through.
Ahhhh!!! Yes, what the world is opening its arms to is the arch-demon. The world will be lost. Eh, just another bad deal! Tactfully written and thoroughly enjoyed!!
"To be ravaged without mercy, not a single drop of innocence to be found."
I hear you completely, John. The loss of innocence can be found even in pre-teen children. Even as we speak innocence lost is alive and well. Over 20 dead in Orlando, Florida last night . . .
Mary Angela Nangini's poems celebrate the richness of life and love. From the city to cottage-country and the roads in between, Nangini explores the changing seasons of her varied region. (This book will soon be reprinted in hard cover.)
In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
