Morning Has Awoken
By John Herlihy

We say that the morning has broken;
The eternal day returns daylight to betoken.
An eternal darkness invaded all the night long;
Ghosts, witches and goblins arrived in a throng,
To scare the living daylights out of our sight.
Children, adults and old people all suffer them alike.
What then has the morning seemingly broken,
The witches’ broom, devil’s brew and goblin’s magic token?
Is the night a gateway into everlasting oblivion?
Or do the mystic stars sparkle a message of holy union?
It seems nature and all her laws hibernate during the night;
The dawn breaks the night spell to arrange the puzzle of light.
Some people prefer the turn of phrase morning has broken;
I prefer to say that from deep slumber morning has awoken.

English is such a wonderful language that it really makes no difference whether we say awoken or broken. Both have slightly different but interesting connotations.

As a longtime lover of the night for sleeping, observing nature in the nighttime, carousing, and driving with powerful headlights to light the way, I find nothing at all forbidding or scary about the night. Unfortunately, so many people do that it scares me. Some of them even fear to go out in daylight. What's the world coming to? ;-)

However you say it, old sun has appeared to chase the darkness away. Some people don't wait for the sun to arise. Like me this morning.
