I never suffer from any pain.
Correction: I do suffer pain,
But I give it no clear name.
I do not speak of it aloud,
I never lift its dark shroud.
I suffer my pain in silence,
My silent pain has occurred,
With no need to be heard,
It gives me all that it has got,
Much more than I ever sought.
Similarly, we have some fear,
But we give it no true voice.
On occasion, we have sorrow,
Our sadness will never rejoice,
We hold such things close, near.
I never consider pain as fresh,
An ugly welt will always result.
From burning of scalded flesh,
Pain is always old, never new,
Well known as anything I knew.
I never speak of courage or pride,
What virtue we have remains inside.
Our boasting seems a form of undress,
Once said aloud, there is no redress,
Silence has often been my true guide.
We always cling to eternal hope,
Just as we truly savor its promise.
Occasionally, we also have despair,
That displays no ounce of solace,
As such, I hold tight the divine rope.
No need to cling to eternal pain,
It lies within humanity to remain.
We feel other’s suffering the same,
As we feel the glory of our own gain,
Our deepest nature makes this plain.
Imagine the pride in enduring the pain,
In comparison, complacency is profane.
Because pain have no true reliance,
My preference is to suffer in silence,
Pain’s fury dies in the face of defiance.
WELL, HERE WE GO JOHN...FOR ME, YOUR PROSE WORK, WHICH IS WONDERFUL ARTISTIC SHARING THAT I ENJOYED AND APPRECIATE, DOES NOT WORK FOR ME. I HAVE EXPERIENCED GREAT EMOTIONAL 'PAIN' IN MY LIFE AND I KNOW, FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, I COULD NOT BEAR IT ON MY OWN. IF 'I' HAD TO BEAR ALL THE PAIN THAT I'VE ENCOUNTERED I WOULD BE TOTALLY OUT OF MY MIND BY NOW OR DEAD, HAVING COMMITTED SUICIDE. I CONCEDE, WITHOUT ANY HESITATION, THAT I AM NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO STAND ALONE IN THE FACE OF SUCH PAIN. IT IS BECAUSE OF THIS THAT I 'KNOW' THERE IS A GOD. THERE WAS A TIME WHEN I CONSIDERED ENDING IT ALL, IT WAS TOO MUCH. BUT THE KINGS OF KINGS, WHO HAD BEEN THERE ALL THE TIME WAITING FOR ME TO REALIZE HOW MUCH 'HE WAS NEEDED' REVEALED HIMSELF AND TOLD THAT HE CARES FOR ME. SO WE EXCHANGED; I GAVE HIM MY PAIN AND HE GAVE ME HIS YOKE WHICH IS EASY AND HIS BURDEN WHICH IS LIGHT. I STILL HAVE PAIN BUT JESUS, HE BARES IT. I DO NOT HAVE TO SUFFER FOR HE KNOWS IT 'ALL', AND EVEN BEFORE I CALL, HE HEARS AND WHILE I AM YET SPEAKING, HE ANSWERS. MIRACULOUS, ISN'T IT? The lidocaine patch is no stranger to me. I'm with you. Why talk about it? Do something about it so there's less or nothing causing that pain that can get old real quick!
I can't say anything more than what has already been put forth though when I am suffering from depression or some such mental malady, I tend to go out amongst the world and try to spread humor & mirth, which for a time makes me forget my pain...-e-
Pain is a symptom and not a cause. In many cases, pain can be removed by simply finding the cause. No one sits on a nail very long. We immediately notice that we have something sharp poking us, and remove it.
However, with aging comes conditions like diabetes and arthritis. Removing the cause can be very liberating, like joint replacement. However, death so far, cannot be cured. So, the ultimate pain is death. Generally it's when our heart stops pumping blood or we can't breathe. Both result in tremendous pain and unconsciousness, the natural body response to too much pain.
Fortunately, there are drugs that can treat the symptoms, if not the cause, and relieve the pain. I believe soon, gene therapy will be able to reverse painful conditions. Strong drugs like morphine do a wonderful job to keep one calm under extreme pain and strategies like hospice allow a person to die without having to undergo pain.
Remaining silent about pain can be deadly because it may indicate by symptom something that can be easily corrected early, but not stopped if it reaches later stages like many cancers. When I feel unusual pain, I called the doctor and get checked out. Recently, my partner got shingles. It was such a mild case that she complains much more about a single mosquito bite. Others are not so lucky. Shingles can be unbearable. I'm getting my single shots so that I don't have to suffer in silence if I get them.
It's one thing to suffer in silence, I mean who really wants to hear of our aches and pains. However, on the other side, If we suffered in silence, would compassion cease to exist?
I've known many over the years who chose to suffer in silence. I'm not one of them. You see so many of them smile, but they wanna cry. They yammer on incessantly, but they really wanna be silent. They pretend that they're happy and content but they're really not. Many of them live their last years alone and unloved. Life has made me very strong and very sensitive. Every now and then, though, it's nice to have someone take your hand and tell you everything is going to be alright. Peace to you... r
