I have never known a straight path in my life;
The years have been crooked and full of strife.
Wandering has taken me to places far and wide;
The eerie echoes of ghosts into my ears have cried.
Religions spoke of honor to pursue a straight path;
I have only found turmoil and loss in the aftermath.
Loss thrown by the wayside during my life’s travail;
Lost in the archives of history, far beyond the pale.
Mystery hounding me in ways I could not fathom;
The human legacy borne since the time of Adam.
Temptations have thrived, my direction to waylay;
Destination to destination, never one place to stay.
In my mind’s eye, always the straight path to follow;
Like an arrow, thru yesterday, today and tomorrow.
The road always there before me, iconic, mythical;
My song sung day after day, both lilting and lyrical.
EACH PERSON'S PATH IS DIFFERENT. EVEN IF OTHERS TAKE THE SAME PATH EACH PERSONS INTERPRETATION OF THE JOURNEY IS DIFFERENT. SO IT IS AS YOU SAY, NO ONE'S PATH IS COMPLETELY STRAIGHT, YET, IT IS A DESTINED PATH WHEREVER IT LEADS...AND HOWEVER IT TURNS. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
My roads have only been straight for short stretches, but if they haven't always been straight, they at least were moving forward. The last 4 lines in your poem were fantastic.
One things for certain; life's path is painfully personal for each of us. It's a real blessing, though, when others can resonate (a little) with the melodies we create, and the insights we've gleaned. Thanks. r
I have say that I thrived on "The years have been crooked and full of strife" internally, not financial-wise. In other words what happened to me during my wanderlust has given me a piece of mind. I really liked your poem, John. There is much depth and insight within the lines.
yes, lilting and lyrical it is. . . now, there are two things: one is internal, which is straight like an arrow, symbol of sincerity and devotion to your principles; and another is external, curved and crooked but which helps the internal line survive and thread longer. When both are well proportioned all relationships and affairs run smoother. Of course, you have seen an old Chinese coin with a square in the center; that's what i mean. . . Thanks for sharing with us this sincere piece of your mind, John. Cheers, alex
Love ya!
