-- Missed --

John Herlihy

You need to know that you are missed;

I remember the moment we last kissed.

A moment that may never happen again;

A moment that I often ask: Where, when.

Please do not fear that you are forgotten;

My longing only stirs memories begotten.

Our taste of summer in the ripened plum;

Our taste of winter in the pale, frigid sun.

Never again that feeling of lasting peace;

Never again dreams that will never cease.

How each minute held the life of an hour;

How each second promised infinite power.

The day will come when no longer missed;

Reunited with eternal love that will persist.

Doesn't absence make the heart grow fonder? Or its supposed to. It's not always the case, however. While there have been many things in my life that I've missed, there have been things to which I've bid good riddance, too. It's all part of the lives we live.
