-- Making Sense of Things --

John Herlihy

As much as we may forever try,

We don’t always make sense of things.

An abundance of hopes that never happen,

A wealth of desire, thimbles never filled,

Happiness so fleeting, while sorrow so permanent.

Time that often seems too big, an eternity,

Or alternatively narrow and closed, an infinity.

How one day we awaken, so eager and ready,

Yet another day we awaken, feeling impending dread,

Not to mention how we try to make sense of God.

Of silence, of emptiness, or loneliness,

Who can fathom the ocean and its depths.

Why some people only seem to cast shadows,

While others sparkle with flickering lights,

To make sense of our moods, worries, fears.

The mysteries of the world hold us in suspense,

To make sense of certain things that make no sense.

I HAVE LONG SURRENDERED MY QUEST TO ACHIEVE THIS TASK, JOHN. SOME THINGS WILL NEVER MAKE SENSE AND I'M JUST GRATEFUL THAT 'HE' WHO HOLDS THE WORLD IN HIS HAND...HOLDS ME TOO. VERY WELL DONE, THANKS. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

maybe making sense is not the goal.

Perhaps it's just as well that things don't always make sense. I believe that there are things we aren't equipped and/or ready to understand and to try to force understanding would do more harm than good. There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio...

I must say that during this pandemic time many people are experiencing multiple emotions. It has a lot to do with our moods that change according along with life's circumstances. It's okay to feel sad when we're sad, and it's okay to feel happy when there are events that make us happy. Our emotion is contagious. It affects the good friends who are near us.
