-- Sing Me a Lullaby –
John Herlihy
Mother nature sings a lullaby that only she knows;
Deep breath, then a sigh, as each of her words flows.
Of pine murmurs and the silent ringing of blue bells,
Of distant thunder that of a coming storm foretells.
The infant light of dawn sings softly with misty dew;
Pours creamy essence across the land as birds flew.
Over lazy rivers bend branches of weeping willows;
Sleeping songbirds chirp with their heads on pillows.
Cooing of doves, the gentle tone of the whippoorwill;
In night dreams, I hear their melancholy echoes still.
All the happiness amid joy, the sadness amid sorrow;
Sweet refrains to live again in the coming of tomorrow.
Sing to me, sing to me again, a lullaby only you know,
Of birth and breath and beauty only life can bestow.
