-- Long Lost Friends --
John Herlihy
Throughout the course of a long life,
I have a multitude of friends known.
After much joy, hardship and strive,
All swept away, by the wind blown.
Many strangers turned firm friends,
During my life, close for some while.
Friends move on, the friendship ends,
Now simply forgotten, a heap in a pile.
Good night, Dolores, sweet dreams.
Goodbye Derrick, keep yourself well.
Hard to know what this passing means.
A mystery that no one can rightly tell.
Here today and then gone tomorrow,
Life captured in the blink of an eye.
We know life but a gift on borrow,
We will never know the day we die.
I too remembered and forgotten,
A friend once in another’s mind.
Live briefly, in another life begotten,
Treated with care by someone kind.
Better to be forgotten and to forget,
Each life lived and sometimes missed.
The living soul has no need for regret,
Touched by someone else as blessed.

And it's always nice to have a friend around during the holidays to help with good cheer. I will be here, hopefully to catch everyone in your poems throughout this few days left of the season until the new year.
