Keeping Silent

by John Herlihy

 

I will keep silent

upon entering silence

silence speaks truth

silence never lies

to find the truth

when I hear silence

I always listen

 

lies are never silent

know nothing of silence

know nothing of truth

never enter silence

never keep silent

I hear lies but

I never listen

 

whenever possible

I will keep silent

from now on

to be silent

to remain silent

creating a place 

where lies never go

 

know the truth

know falsehood

honor the wheat

discard the chaff

a lie assails

the truth prevails

lies as dying

truth as living

If no one would listen to the liars, they would have no power.

Wonderful poem to contemplate. How silence never lies and keep us anchored in the truth of our own convictions.
