Homage to a Day’s Hard Work

by John Herlihy

There's something holy in a day's hard work,

Not a second to waste, without a single perk.

Forget not we earn our living thru hard labor,

The benefits that result offer blessing to savor.

A day's rhythm moves forward hour by hour,

The labor at the grindstone has special power.

Within the seconds lies a silence pervasive,

No one else around with feelings invasive.

Blessed to be here with the fruits of honest toil,

Even if our thoughts seep thru the mind as oil.

The rigors of hard work offer fresh energy,

The daily grind serves up its own mystery.

Every breath, every sound, with its own rhyme,

The labor echoes in rhythms with added chime.

In the end, a hard day's work leaves me content,

I know what I did and I know what it meant.

Such an evaluation is not only appreciated but also encouraged to be read by many. Unfortunately, far too many of today's society feel they're entitled to an easy job, etc. Your poem stresses the importance of putting in a hard day's work, for those who look for freebies lack the knowledge of how cleansing it is. My GP has commented on several visits for my annuals that still working at 89 and writing hours a day is most likely the reason for good health. Keep writing, John, and sending out the important messages.

Say Something Terrorible v3 by RickthePoetWarrior

My mom says ‘If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything’. Sorry mom but under the guise of poetic license I penned these beauties.

Welcome! The poems in this beautifully bound book are a result of over twenty years of observations. Observations of the world around us and on the telecommunications network. All of the hate, love, heroism, disasters, and those who help. Beautif
