If I Wasn't Me - Trish MacQueen's Challenge

My answer to Trish's challenge

If I Wasn’t Me!

If I wasn’t me
What would I like to be?
Just what takes my fancy
I don’t really know.
So let me imagine
And see where I go!

A Mythical dragon?
In some fantasyland?
No, no, that would not be good,
There’d be to many knights,
Hero’s out for my blood,
In order to win some fair damsels hand!

I have ‘itchy’ feet
So I’d not be a tree,
Stuck in the ground
With my roots fast below,
And some underground creature
Chewing on my big tap toe!

Well, how about a mountain
Reaching way up in the sky?
To inspire Reindeer’s poetical fountain
As she climbs my forested slopes so high!
And I would think out aloud
With my head in a cumulous cloud.

Or maybe I’d be a sailing ship,
A tall, stately square rigger,
Destined to sail the seven seas,
Or a fast and beautiful old tea clipper,
But, what if a storm should come along
To rip up my sails and then - sink me!

As a hot air balloon
I could circle the world,
My cylinders would croon
As I climbed up high,
The passengers in my gondola curled
Gazing in wonder at the star studded sky.

Birds are a delight
Their song clear and sweet,
So graceful in flight
It would be a treat
To be able to fly, take off and alight
And never to grumble about my sore feet!

But, I think this is as close
As I ever will be,
To wishing I was something
Other than me.
For I am happy to stay as I am
A child created by God’s decree.

Ahhhh, that sailing ship appeals to me. Or to fly like an eagle...now there is something to think about. Wonderful verse. Love it.

Excellent write, Jackie. The imagery and the "back to reality" twist really makes this a gem.

Oh Jackie! What a delightful read! This one can easily go into a children's book with some nice illustrations. I think this would work best.

For the next little while I will be doing my paintings for my children's books. I hope I can get some going around Christmas time.

Great write Jackie!

Dragon Racer 3 (Dragon Racers) by M. R. Mathias

If you enjoy being taken to the edge of your seat, yanked sideways, and left spinning through the sky on a speeding wyrm, rejoice. The gripping, white-knuckled conclusion of the Dragon Racers trilogy is here.

Christmas When Music Almost Killed the World by Aberjhani

Christmas When Music Almost Killed the World is a novel in which nothing is quite what it seems and everything is loaded with shadowy dreams of the past and nightmares set to soul-pounding music of the future.
