My wife don't like the songs I play; she thinks they're kind of silly.

She likes to play Mozzart and Bach, while I like  Hank and Willie.

So we agreed when we first met to both play our own song.

But not to talk about music and we'd always get along.

She said, "Lets not talk about music; it's the worst thing we can do.

Lets not talk about music; I'm afraid I might lose you.

I'll play my Rogers and Hammerstein; you play your country song.

But let's not talk about music and we'll always get along."

I went to Grand Ole Opry, where she left me at the door.

I went inside to have Merl Travis help me write a score.

And just before she went away, I know I heard her say,

"Sounds like you're tuning instruments; you should learn how to play."

And I said, "Let's not talk about music; it's the worst thing we can do.

Let's not talk about music; I'm afraid I might lose you.

You play your Rogers and Hammerstien; I'll play my country song.

But let's not talk about music and we'll always get along."

There's still one kind of music that we both like to play.

Something we do together.  We do it every day.

It keeps our home life happy and it keeps our love life new.

We don't talk about that either, though, except between us two.
