Truth in advertising was once a true phrase,
But that has long gone now, It’s in in bygone days
Now comes the hard sell, gimmicks galore.
And stupendous false claims, that we all abhor,
How loudly they shout with these boring ads,
They all seem to me to be equally bad,
Each one trumpeting in strident tones,
To sell washing powder and even new homes.
The clamour persists both day and night,
You can still even hear them when out of sight,
Millions of carpets and yes even what’s more
We’ve got special lino to cover your floor.
I’ll tell you my story you can take it as true
There’s never a full price, it’s half price to you,
And if you pay cash, I’ll sell it for less
But you can take it on credit, that might be best
Terms I will give you for a year and a day
And here is the best part no interest you’ll pay
Ring in five minutes there’s quite a lot more,
You can win lots of prizes, sent right to your door..
There’s never an item just sold for a price,
It’s always a ploy with a view to entice,
Like the carrot in front of the donkey that dangled,
If you are now selling you must have an angle.
