TWO DIFFERENT
by Don Wendorf, Psy.D.; LMFT
A tiger…could marry…into a clan of lambs,
I suppose, by some stealth or deception.
May be he really loves her, but for everybody’s health,
The in-laws should avoid the reception.
A robin…could marry…a pretty little tuna,
And really love her, wish she’d be his spouse.
But something ‘bout this match seems to me a little fishy:
Like, where will they ever build their house?
A bold print…could marry…some cute italic font,
And try to pen her writing sweet and sage.
It’s hard for such different types to not end up in fighting,
They’ll find it tough to stay on the same page.
A Russian…could marry…a lady from Brazil,
And endlessly his love purport with ease.
But ‘less he teaches Russian to his little turtle dove,
He won’t be heard ‘less he learns Portuguese.
Different personalities, like spices in a stew,
Can blend to make a new and tasty treat.
Different interests, ideas, things you like to do,
Can mix to make your match and selves complete.
But vinegar and baking soda, just make an explosion,
Oil and water won‘t blend, even swirled.
Iron and water mixed, will reach a rusty end:
It’s hard to share a home from different worlds.
So Lucy…could never…pair up with Picasso,
Elvis and the Queen would have to fake it.
Marilyn Monroe, with the Pope, would be obscene,
Einstein and Cleopatra just won’t make it.
