where the gargoyles stand effecting the inner face of man
seen by torch light in the dark spreading dread and fear
claws of merciless toucher gripping the parapets boaster
guarding a mortal heart encased in ice in a body of stone
waiting for her lover to be dethroned, setting her free
ensconced he, mystical traps before taking his last leave
round her swims the mote dragons of her defiled mind
winged griffins circle over head with lion body's and hearts
sharp toothed, ripping all who would set the maiden free
prerogative knight  comes to the maiden fair, dauntless of task
for he has found her and she has chosen him her champion
mounting the wall stand she does, raven hair round her face
brocade gown  with inner lace she awaits his embrace
his sturdy steed of fortitude and deep mettle in chain mail
both they approach, mote dragons tremble in abject fear
cross the draw bridge of grief to her heart he rides
griffins of the air, take flight in view of his might
drawing his sword of love, slicing the cold tombstone round her
he penetrates the heart of ice, melting pain with one heartfelt kiss
taking her into his bulwark embrace
removes fair damsel from the loveless parapets
forever more he to be her shield of adoration
